FEMALE Beauty Faves: How To Apply Bronzer, The Fenty Beauty Way

What’s there not to love about Fenty Beauty? Beyond being inclusive and well-formulated, their products are also oh-so-easy to use! But no matter how foolproof a product may seem, there is always something to learn from how the experts use it– especially when that expert happens to be Hector Espinal, Fenty Beauty’s Global Makeup Artist.

Hector recently took to Youtube to show off the best way to use the brand’s newly released Sunstalkr Instant Warmth Bronzers. Bronzer is a product that tends to induce some confusion  (Is it contour? Do you need it? Where do you apply it? How do you make it look natural?) so this video could not have come at a better time.

1. It’s Not Contour

Here’s the definitive answer: Bronzer is not contour. Contour aims to sculpt your face by creating the illusion of shadows, which means the colours tend to be cooler. Bronzers on the other hand are supposed to add warmth to skintones, and they do this with warmer shades with undertones of red and yellow – no matter your skin tone.

So when applying bronzer, don’t try to sculpt your face. Keep it to where the sun would naturally hit your face: the high points of the cheeks, nose bridge, chin, temples and jawline. And don’t forget the exposed skin on your body!

2. Keep The T-Zone Clear

With bronzer, you want to look sun-kissed, not muddy so keep the center of your face neutral and free of bronzer. According to Hector, a good guide is to make sure your T-zone remains the untouched by product– except the bridge of your nose!

3. But Balance The Eyes

Neutralise your eyes as well, as bronzer can bring out redness in the skin and eyes on fair skin. Hector gets around this by sweeping bronzer on the eyelid and lower lash line. The effect is magical: suddenly the bronzer looks natural and tied together.

To really complete the look, add shine and life with a shimmery highlighting powder on the cheekbones and lids, mascara, and a touch of lipgloss.
