With all the gorgeous, iconic makeup trends Korea has given us in the past, we’re always wondering what’ll be the next Korean makeup trend that’s going to take the world by storm.
Fortunately our friends from Marie Claire had the chance to sit down with a professional makeup artist from Korea to discuss the year’s upcoming trends! This is what leading makeup artist Jenny Park (who is also the Creative Director of Moonshot Cosmetics) thinks will be the hottest Korean beauty trends to look out for this year.
1. More Minimal Skincare
The 10-step Korean skincare routine may be famous online, but in real life, Korean women are now shifting to a more minimal routine with fewer steps. Pare down your routine to include steps that really matter to you.
“We’re also really, really into oil cleansers at the moment,” said Jenny. “It’s so easy to use, and is incredibly moisturising. It leaves the skin feeling clean yet balanced.”
2. More Colours On Eyes
“We’re braving brighter tones on our eyes now, instead of the usual subtle browns and taupes. My favourite colours at the moment are flashes of blue and purple on the eyelids.”
So colour lovers rejoice – bolder brighter eyes are in!
3. Bright And Bold Lips
“Instead of the gradient lip effect, we’re now seeing more full-on bright pops of colour on the lips. Bright reds, pinks, corals and purples are very much in-trend right now.”
Full-on bright coloured lips are getting really popular in Korea, as you can tell from the bolder, more-pigmented lipsticks that have been launching lately!
4. Western Influence
“While the no makeup-makeup look is still widely practiced, we’re now gearing towards more Western styles of makeup, like contouring the cheekbones and jawline.”
Moonshot is available at all Sephora outlets nationwide and online.
