“Glass Skin” Is K-Beauty’s Latest Trend – Here’s How To Get It!

First there was the plump dewy softness of chok chok skin, and now say hello to Korea’s latest skin aspirations: glass skin!

Glass skin is exactly what it sounds like– skin that’s as perfectly smooth and transparent as a pane of glass. You may know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever noticed how your skin looks after a really good facial or sheet mask: clear, even, glowing and luminous.

“Glass skin is this idea of transparent and translucent skin,”  Alicia Yoon, founder of Korean beauty marketplace Peach & Lily, told Refinery29. “It’s a sign of youthfulness and it’s one of the most strived-for qualities in Korea. However, this combination of ultra-smooth texture and super translucency can be hard to achieve with products alone. It’s not something you get overnight – it’s consistent skincare that gives you that refined texture, the pinnacle of youthful skin.”

“Getting this fresh-faced texture comes two-fold: First, you’ll need an exfoliator to buff skin so it has that very smooth texture. Secondly, a hydrating serum to help give that glass-like appearance,” explains Yoon.

Sarah Lee and Christine Chang of Glow Recipe also recommend layering your skincare to maximise hydration for the glow of your life. Think of it as strobing with your skincare, they told Allure.

So while a sheet mask or even our favourite 7-skin toner method can give you a bit of an instant glassy boost, a consistent and disciplined skincare routine will have you glowing in the long term. Interested? Here are the products routine I swear by for my daily glow routine!

Personally  I think there’s a bit of an inner glow going on , but it also looks like there’s a sheen of something that sits on your skin– kind of like a glazed doughnut, but in a good way. Whether it’s moisture from your skincare products or from some very well-placed illluminator/highlighter/strobing cream (I love the Moonshot Moonflash Cushion for this perfect non-shimmery highlighted sheen), achieving the glassy glow is just a few steps away!
