FEMALE Tries: Huxley, The Cult Korean Skincare Brand Taking Over The K-Beauty World

Great things never came from comfort zones.

What is Huxley?

A skincare brand that has been taking the Korean skincare world by storm, where it now appears to have achieved cult status. I first heard of Huxley when some of my favourite Korean Youtubers gushed about it!

All of Huxley’s products heavily feature their star ingredient: certified organic prickly pear cactus seed oil. This oil is more moisturising than argan oil, but feels lighter and absorbs faster due to its high linoleic acid content. It also has 400 times the natural Vitamin E content of olive oil for a serious nourishing and anti-aging punch!

Huxley in Malaysia

I figured such a cult brand would make its way to Malaysia eventually. Sure enough, my mom (thanks, mom!!) informed me that she found a local site that stocked Huxley: Kurator.my.

Kurator is still fairly new, and they specialise in stocking simple and natural Korean skincare brands. Look through it, and you’ll realise it’s an undiscovered gem of a place that sells Huxley and a range of other hard-to-find brands. Impressed with their mission statement and free sample practice, I knew I had to get in touch with them immediately!

The Hydration Routine

A few emails later and the lovely folks at Kurator sent me Huxley’s Hydration Routine, which is their recommended regime for dry and sensitive skin that’s especially prone to sun irritation. This is a three-step routine, consisting of a toner, essence, and cream.

Look at that packaging!

Toner; Extract It (RM113): A light toner that soothes and refines skin texture. It’s slightly acidic, making it perfect for prepping your skin for actives like AHA, BHA, or Vitamin C.

Essence; Grab Water (RM148): A watery essence featuring natural moisturising factors, antioxidants, and peppermint for an instant refreshing boost in moisture.

Cream; Fresh And More (RM123): A soothing, refreshing gel-cream moisturiser enriched with hyaluronic acid and ceramides for hydration and moisture barrier restoration.

DID YOU KNOW: The brand gets its name from Aldous Huxley, the author of the novel “Brave New World”, a nod to the harsh habitat of the prickly pear cactus.

The first time you try Huxley, it’s an experience.  Everything in this range is a complete sensorial delight, from its gorgeous minimalist packaging, the signature tranquil scent to the amazing light-as-air product textures. I layered the cream over the essence over the toner, and just luxuriated in the entire thing. It smells green and fresh, like a freshly-cut fruit, and it’s so hydrating that it feels like you’ve dunked your face in a cool, crystal-clear spring. With just three products, my skin and I felt ridiculously happy.

But here‘s the thing: my skin is also exceptionally dry. It needs a lot of moisturiser, especially the heaviest, richest moisturisers topped with facial oils and occlusives. Anything lighter else just vanishes within seconds. Even perfume rolls off my oil-deficient skin.

So while Huxley’s Hydration Routine smelled amazing and felt great during application, the products in this routine were just too light for me and the moisture just didn’t last long enough, especially overnight. That being said, I still used it every day and night for this review, and my skin didn’t get any worse. It remained calm and bright throughout the week, albeit slightly drier than I would have liked.

But when I tried all three products on my oily-skinned boyfriend, that’s when it really clicked. He tends to get a little oily even just from sleeping, so I was amazed to see that his skin was perfectly soft, hydrated, and completely matte the next morning. If you have oily skin, this is an absolutely fantastic routine that’ll give you the best hydration you need while keeping your oil under control. I was completely blown away.

The Extra Moisture Routine

My skin, on the other hand, fared better with their Extra Moisture Routine, which consists of the same toner, a facial oil and a richer moisturiser.

Oil; Light And More (RM168): A lightweight but nourishing combination of skin-nourishing botanic oils including prickly pear seed oil, sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil, and abyssinian seed oil.

Cream; Moist And More (RM133): A deeply moisturising cream with shea butter for ultimate moisture and repair.

The Light And More oil was astounding– it absorbed so quickly and left my skin silky-smooth. This would make a great addition to any skincare routine, regardless of your skin type. It seals in all your hydration, adds an extra dose of moisture, and smooths out your skin so well, it’ll look like you’re wearing a skin-perfecting primer.

And my skin LOVED the Moist And More Cream. It melted into my skin, and it was rich and comfortable and so nourishing. You can see the difference in texture of the Moist and Fresh Creams below.

The Verdict

I whole-heartedly recommend Huxley. It’s the one skincare brand I’ll say you have to try at least once. It’s simple, hypoallergenic, botanic-rich skincare that does what it says and does it exceptionally well. It smells divine. The Hydration Routine is the best moisturising method for oily skin, while drier skin types should try the heavier, more oil-rich products in their catalogue.
