Sir John breaks it all down in these six simple beauty rules you can follow
We all know and without a doubt that Beyoncé is a natural beauty, but every big superstars need a little beauty help from makeup artists ever so often to make them shine than the rest. Come Sir John, makeup guru and L’Oréal Paris ambassador who has helped Queen Bey to maintain her goddess-like glow in every occasion.
While every makeup artist and gurus we know, they prioritize on a full on beat face of contouring and highlight, but Sir John’s specialty is the natural fresh-faced, no makeup look (he basically made that look a trend). And since strobing is the beauty trend we’re currently crazy about, Sir John is generous enough to give him his tips on how to achieve Beyoncé’s ever glistening glow!
Take care of your skin
Every artwork needs a good canvas, so it’s no surprise in order to achieve the fresh-faced no makeup you need to prioritize your skin. “I can’t stress this enough, but keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important. Not only does it help your skin just look and feel better, but your makeup will glide on. So moisturize, moisturize, moisturize,” says Sir John, who is also “obsessed with toning.” Sir John’s go to products are L’Oréal’s Pure Clay Mask, REN’s Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask, and Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir.
Less is more
Let’s face it, we all want to wake up looking #flawless like Beyoncé so when it comes to achieving that barely there look, Sir John has some really practical advice. “Start light and build the coverage you need. That way you cover those imperfections but the skin still shines through and you’ve created a totally natural look.” He recommends using a water-based moisturizer, and then following up with a tinted moisturizer with SPF that’s light and breathable. Then conceal where is necessary.
Massage the products in
When asked about how to apply said products, he stressed massaging products into the skin. “Don’t be afraid to really get in there,” he said as your skin will look more alive and awake.
Glow, don’t shine
“My one piece of advice for applying product is to stay away from using anything that creates shine on the center of the face—the center of the face should always stay matte.” That way, when you take pictures straight on you won’t look oily or shiny. Try luminizing products as he said it’s a great way to add some “brilliance and radiance” to look glowy and dewy, rather than shiny.
Wash your face
First tip of Sir John’s rule is to prioritize the skin, so it’s no surprise that taking off makeup at night is a crucial routine. “It doesn’t matter if you’re dead tired or drunk, take your makeup off before bed.” He also recommends “using a cleaning device to get skin super-duper clean and a fruit enzyme peel once a week.”
Beautify from the inside out
You know what they say, when you’re beautiful inside, the outside will resonate through. Sir John’s major rule to glowing skin are juicing, an anti-inflammatory diet, and working up a sweat at least 20 minutes a day. “I’m really holistic when it comes to skin care—it really starts on the inside,” he says. “I’m a huge fan of eating healthy to make sure your skin is getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs to look its best. I always tell my clients to drink a carrot juice before a big event because you will see the results literally overnight.”
